This Quick One-Pan Honey Garlic Salmon with Asparagus is a fast, healthy dinner that comes together in about 20 minutes. The salmon is perfectly flaky, the asparagus gets a nice char, and the glossy honey garlic glaze coats every bite for a restaurant-quality meal with minimal cleanup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each), skin on or off
  • 1 bunch asparagus, woody ends trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium if desired)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped, for garnish
  • Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

  1. Take the salmon out of the fridge about 10 minutes before cooking. Pat the fillets dry with paper towels and season both sides with salt and pepper. Trim the woody ends off the asparagus by bending each spear until it snaps naturally.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil shimmers, place the salmon fillets skin-side down (or presentation-side down). Cook for 3-4 minutes without moving them, until a golden-brown crust forms.
  4. Flip the salmon over. Push the fillets to one side of the pan and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the empty space. Add the asparagus spears and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for 2 minutes, turning occasionally, until bright green and starting to char.
  5. Pour the honey garlic glaze over the salmon and asparagus. Let it bubble and reduce for 1-2 minutes, spooning the glaze over the salmon as it cooks.
  6. Add the tablespoon of butter to the pan and swirl it into the glaze as it melts. Cook for another 30 seconds, then remove the pan from the heat.
  7. Let the salmon rest in the pan for 2 minutes. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and fresh parsley or green onions. Serve with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

Pat the salmon dry for a good crust. Don’t overcrowd the pan. Watch the garlic to prevent burning. Use a thermometer for perfect doneness (125°F for medium-rare, 130°F for medium). Don’t skip the butter at the end for a silky sauce.
