An incredibly moist pumpkin bread featuring a tangy cream cheese swirl, made with simple pantry ingredients for a perfect fall treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • ½ cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup (240g) 100% pure pumpkin puree
  • ½ cup (120g) sour cream
  • 8 oz (225g) full-fat cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup (30g) powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter, vegetable oil, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in pumpkin puree until just combined.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, folding gently with a spatula until no flour streaks remain. Do not overmix.
  6. In a small bowl, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth.
  7. Spoon half of the pumpkin batter into the prepared pan. Dollop cream cheese mixture over the batter. Cover with remaining pumpkin batter.
  8. Drag a butter knife or skewer through the batter in a zig-zag pattern to create a swirl.
  9. Bake for 55-65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Cover with foil if top browns too quickly.
  10. Cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Ensure eggs and butter are at room temperature. Use 100% pure pumpkin puree, not pie filling. If pumpkin puree is watery, drain it in cheesecloth. Do not overmix the batter to avoid tough bread. Cool completely before slicing to prevent crumbling.
