Halloween Mummy Hot Dogs - featured image

A spooky yet delicious finger food made by wrapping hot dogs in pastry strips and baking until golden. These easy-to-make mummies are perfect for Halloween parties, game days, or quick weeknight snacks.

Ingredients

  • Standard all-beef or turkey frankfurters (6-inch)
  • Refrigerated biscuit dough (10-16 oz tube) OR puff pastry sheets
  • Unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
  • Ketchup or thick barbecue sauce (for eyes)
  • Yellow mustard (optional, for pupils)
  • Pretzel salt or sesame seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  3. Prepare the dough: Split biscuits into quarters or halves, or cut puff pastry into 1-inch wide strips.
  4. Wrap each hot dog with dough strips, overlapping slightly but leaving a gap at the top for the face. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  5. Brush the tops of the wrapped hot dogs with melted butter.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the dough is golden brown and puffed.
  7. Cool for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Place two dollops of ketchup near the top gap to create eyes. Add mustard dots for pupils if desired.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

Ensure the oven is fully preheated to prevent flat mummies. Keep dough cold until wrapping for best results. Do not overlap dough too much to avoid raw centers. Can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.
