A rich and creamy side dish featuring roasted sweet potatoes blended with cream cheese, real maple syrup, and warm spices, topped with toasted pecans for a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 to 4 large sweet potatoes (about 3 lbs)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup real maple syrup (Grade B or dark amber)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Wash sweet potatoes thoroughly and pierce them several times with a fork. Place directly on the baking sheet and roast for 45-60 minutes until very soft and tender.
  3. While potatoes roast, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add chopped pecans and toast for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent burning. Set aside.
  4. Once roasted potatoes are cool enough to handle, cut them in half and scoop the flesh into a large mixing bowl, discarding the skins.
  5. Add softened butter, cream cheese, heavy cream, maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt to the bowl.
  6. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the mixture until completely smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  7. Spread the sweet potato mixture evenly into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  8. Sprinkle the toasted pecans evenly over the top.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, until edges bubble and topping is golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use real maple syrup rather than pancake syrup. Ensure butter and cream cheese are at room temperature to avoid lumps. Roasting the potatoes concentrates their flavor compared to boiling. If the mixture is too thick, add more cream; if too thin, add more cream cheese. This dish can be made dairy-free by substituting butter and cream cheese with coconut-based alternatives.
