A quick and easy classic margarita recipe with fresh lime juice, blanco tequila, and a salted rim, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) tequila blanco (100% agave)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz (30 ml) orange liqueur (Triple sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier)
  • ½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup (homemade or store-bought)
  • Coarse salt for rimming the glass
  • Lime wedges for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your glass. Then, dip the rim into a plate of coarse salt, twisting gently to create an even layer. Set the glass aside.
  2. Squeeze fresh limes until you have about 1 oz (30 ml) of juice.
  3. Pour 2 oz (60 ml) tequila blanco, 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice, 1 oz (30 ml) orange liqueur, and ½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup into your cocktail shaker.
  4. Fill the shaker about ¾ full with ice cubes.
  5. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until the shaker frosts up.
  6. Strain the margarita into your salt-rimmed glass filled with fresh ice.
  7. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim or float it in the glass.

Notes

Use freshly squeezed lime juice for best flavor. If salt doesn’t stick well to the rim, moisten it more. Adjust simple syrup to taste for sweetness. For a frozen margarita, blend ingredients with ice instead of shaking. Optional: add jalapeño slice for a spicy twist.
