A refreshing homemade sweet tea made with fresh ripe peaches and black tea, perfect for summer gatherings and backyard barbecues.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 45 black tea bags (recommend Twinings or Lipton)
  • 3 medium ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
  • ½ to ¾ cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste; can substitute honey or agave)
  • 6 cups (1.4 liters) filtered water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • Ice cubes for serving
  • Optional: fresh mint sprigs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil 6 cups (1.4 liters) of filtered water in a medium saucepan over high heat (about 5 minutes).
  2. Remove from heat and add 4 to 5 black tea bags. Steep for 5 to 7 minutes, depending on desired strength.
  3. Remove tea bags, squeezing gently to extract flavor. While tea is warm, stir in ½ to ¾ cup granulated sugar until dissolved. Adjust sweetness to taste.
  4. Peel, pit, and slice 3 medium ripe peaches. Puree in a blender or food processor until smooth (or pulse for texture).
  5. Strain peach puree through a fine mesh sieve to remove solids for a smooth texture.
  6. Combine the sweetened tea, peach puree, and 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice in a large heatproof pitcher. Stir well.
  7. Chill the tea in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight to meld flavors.
  8. Serve over ice cubes, garnished with fresh mint sprigs if desired.

Notes

Use fresh ripe peaches for best flavor; frozen peaches can be substituted. Adjust sugar to taste or use natural sweeteners like honey or stevia. Steep tea for about 6 minutes to avoid bitterness. Chill tea for at least 2 hours for best flavor melding. If tea is too strong or sweet after chilling, dilute with cold water or add more ice. Can use decaf or rooibos tea for caffeine-free version.
